RBL is a community of people with a shared love of gathering around music and radio.
OUR STORY
Radio Banda Larga started in 2011 in Turin, Italy. In the course of a decade RBL grew first into a local and later an international community of radio-makers and music lovers. Today RBL counts hundreds of contributors from across the three cities where it’s based - Turin, Berlin and Barcelona, animating the local scenes with grassroots initiatives and events.
THE HUBS
Radio Banda Larga began in Turin in 2011, at the dawn of internet radio, as an ad-free radio broadcasting live from public spaces. RBL’s first broadcast was on April 25, 2012, live from the terrace of Imbarchino — a historic bar and well-known cultural center in Turin’s Parco del Valentino.
RBL then further developed the project by combining radio broadcasts with a program of music events, social inclusion workshops for marginalised groups, training courses for young people, and media partnerships with other local cultural organisations. The broadcasts were hosted by various cultural centres across the city before eventually landing at Via Baltea 3, which remains the radio's operational headquarters in Turin today, alongside its broadcasting headquarter in Imbarchino.
Over these years RBL has become a true cornerstone of the underground music culture of Turin and Northern Italy.
