On Friday 29th January RBL meets SEEYOUSOUND International Music Film Festival – Turin’s cinema festival entirely dedicated to music-themed movies – for the first of several radio specials before the festival.
The SYS team will introduce the theme of its 7th edition, Black Lives Matter, and the idea behind it of tracing back the black spirit as a fil-noir of the titles on show. Both the movies in competition and the ones in the non-competitive sections are permeated by the purest roots of black music, yet also by the protests against the violations of Afro-american people and rights.
Friday 29th January | 3 – 4 PM
Oliver Murray’s Ronnie’s presents music as playground for new encounters and it’s presented as a national preview within the “Long Play Doc.” section. The story of the legendary London club isn’t the only title exploring the history of black music: in the “Into the Groove” section Simon Sheridan’s Everything: The Real Thing Story narrated The Real King’s first revolution of black music in the UK, while Osannaples (M. Deborah Farina) celebrates the Neapolitan band Osanna that lied the foundations for the Naples Power movement.
#BlackLivesMatter lives also in the non.competitive section “RISING SOUND – Trans Global Express”, showcasing the most innovative sounds coming from all over the world. A journey from the Afro-Portuguese music scene rooted in the Lisbon suburbs shown in Rita Maia’s and Vasco Viana’s Lisbon Beat, to the Ghanese new wave of CONTRADICT Ideas for a new world directed by Peter Guyer and Thomas Burkhalter. SeeYouSound also presents the rising Italian black generation with a selection of music video for the “SOUNDIES” contest, i.e. the video of J. Lord’s Sixteen, a rap track by the young Napoletano rapper inspired by American hip hop.
From 19th until 25th February the festival will be available online, on demand on PLAYSYS.TV.
