RBL Invites: November edition

This month, we are excited to have not one, not two but three special shows for RBL Invites, the monthly programme from RBL BCN that showcases artists from the local scene as well as djs and collectives that are passing through the city and sharing their work. We have three artists that have created a mix exclusively for RBL BCN that will be aired alongside our usual roster of djs, bringing new sounds and selections to our weekend of music this November.

On Friday 25th November at 11pm, DJ Rosario will be showcasing their ability to surprise audiences tuning in on the airwaves or from the dancefloor by playing a musical cocktail of different styles and from different eras. From contemporary House and classic Techno to Acid House and Italo Disco, DJ Rosario takes listeners on a journey that will tug on the heartstrings and your dancing feet.

DJ Rosario started selecting in 2002 and has grown to be an important part of Barcelona’s music scene, earning the label of Catalunya’s very own Black Madonna after playing at a range of stellar venues, including Nitsa Club and closing Primavera Sound in 2019 with Sama Yax. In 2002, DJ Rosario co-founded LeSFATALeS, the collective promoting activism through music within the LGTBIQ+ community, creating new spaces for women in the electronic music scene in Barcelona. Currently part of the roster of artists at Femnoise, a platform that supports a feminist digital economy in Music, DJ Rosario also supports up and coming artists by leading DJ workshops for women and non-binary people with Boller Room.

On Saturday 26th November at 3pm, Hollyspleef, an Italian electronic music producer, will be sharing a selection of musical delights, inspired by his own sonic adventures through the early 21st Century. Hollyspleef spends his late evenings and early mornings making live recordings with a bunch of analog gear from his hidden studio on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. On one hand drawing from R&B, House and Dub/Reggae, and on the other tapping into richly layered ambient and future-jazz, Hollyspleef creates sonically smooth music that rises and recedes like the tide. His sound could be just as at home as the soundtrack for the next great surf film or being played at a packed club at 2am.

Part of the Funclab Records label, Hollyspleef is a soulful artist whose styles bend time and space with a particular groove. Playing tunes that span from soul to broken beat, during Hollyspleef’s DJ sets you can immerse yourself in new soundscapes, where time seems to expand and space shrinks. Recently spending some time in Barcelona following the release of his latest album, Garden Grooves, Hollyspleef will share a mix of timeless dance music that covers the hits and new ‘classics’.

On Sunday 27th November at 11pm, Barcelona based Luiz Felipe Lucas and their character @cabezadenego, along with the producers Mbé and Leyblack will present MIMOSA, a journey through Carioca funk, from the originators and ancestors of the genre to the latest artists on the scene. MIMOSA is a new project that will share the history of an important part of black Brazilian music in a personal way, bringing sounds inspired by dance floors in Brazil that will be heard for the first time, highlighting the rhythms that have been passed down through generations.

Currently participating in Etopia, an artists’ residency in Zaragoza, Luiz Felipe Lucas, Mbé and Leyblack have developed samples and sound constructions that have been rebuilding this unknown history, whose echoes can be felt in the sound’s effervescence. MIMOSA is a celebration that tells the chronological story of rhythms that have been persecuted in Brazil since the end of slavery. This set will feature tracks from the current Brazilian funk scene, along with tracks created exclusively for the MIMOSA project and presented on air for the first time.

We’re delighted to collaborate with all of these artists and collectives for RBL Invites this month and are sure that you’ll enjoy discovering new sounds, and being taken on a sonic journey as you tune in this weekend!
