Rbl Bcn marks its 1 year anniversary with a double celebration at Salvadiscos and Sala Upload, and everyone’s invited!
Since starting in January 2022, RBL Barcelona has become well known for showcasing music of the highest quality across a spectrum of genres at their live monthly radio sessions at Salvadiscos, and at events around the city. RBL (Radio Banda Larga) is an online radio project that aims to provide a platform for diverse communities to share their creativity and passions, and on Sunday 22nd January from 1-10pm, a selection of hosts and special guests including Nicole Aiff, Breixo Martinez, Margaux, Patch, Azadi Sound and Marta Mer will take you on an eclectic musical journey at Salvadiscos. To get you in the mood, we’ve put a spotlight on two of the guests that will be joining us…
This month on her show The Groove Quest, Nicole Aiff will be joined by Breixo Martinez, one of Barcelona’s most well respected selectors. A member of the DJ crew of Discos Paradiso, the much-loved Barcelona record store for any distinguished digger, Breixo is also the presenter and director of the radio show, Canela En Surco. Breixo keeps himself busy running two record labels. The first, which shares the same name as his radio show, Canela En Surco launched with the reissue of “Universo da Ilha” by Vasco Martins, and the release of a compilation of the Spanish electronic pioneer Alex Martín. The second label “Escola Records”, which Breixo runs with his friend Pau Roca is more focused on Soulful House music & Broken Beat. Originally from Galicia, Breixo has lived in Barcelona since 2007 and over the last 9 years has been throwing parties around the city, featuring acts from Deep88, DJ Nature and Volcov to Floating Points, Mafalda and many more.
For RBL Invites this month, we are very excited to welcome Margaux to our special birthday edition of live radio at Salvadiscos. Margaux’s eclectic DJ sets traverse ambient and experimental jazz, and evolve naturally into minimal, groovy, deep dub sounds. Her breakout track Water on Mars was released to acclaim on Smallville’s Fifty-five Ways EP in 2019, but recent productions take on a more organic form by combining field recording techniques and original acoustic instrumentation. During her live set on Sunday 22nd January 8-9pm CET, Margaux will share eclectic sounds from experimental jazz to organic beats that will be a pleasure to listen and dance to.
The celebrations continue on Friday 3rd February when RBL Barcelona will host a 1 year anniversary party at Sala Upload featuring a packed lineup of radio hosts and friends of RBL BCN. Expect to hear the best Salsa, Cumbia and Latin Funk from La Otra Rumba, Afrobeats and Latin vibes from LA KÁ and House, Boogie and Disco from Gyan and Repe. There will also be quality Techno, Acid and Dark Disco from Tamarindo, Breaks and Afro-Electronic Beats from Opoku and Soulful and Percussive Dance Music from Mara Valenzuela.
Tickets for the 1 year anniversary party are €10 on Resident Advisor, with all funds raised going towards helping to sustain and grow the radio project.
