How Does Patreon Work?
You might have already seen our new RBL.Media Patreon page, which was launched on Saturday 12th December with a special 14-hour-long streaming live on our website. The RBL Patreon campaign was born as part of the project Banda Larga Community Hypermedia, realized with the contribution of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo.
This is just the beginning of a long term campaign that aims at making RBL and its projects more sustainable and grow it even further. But why did we choose Patreon for this purpose?
Patreon is a platform that allows people to support their favourite content creators (artists, musicians, organisations, etc) with a subscription model based on a monthly donation choosing between different donation options. The transparent approach of Patreon allows many organisations and creators to continue doing what they do best, be it working on their art or bringing on their personal project while remaining culturally and financially independent.
Why Patreon and not a crowdfunding platform?
Even though Patreon and other crowdfunding platforms have similar characteristics, Patreon’s model suits better a long term project like ours. This campaign will allow RBL to have a predictable monthly budget that will allow it to cover its expenses and plan new projects for the new decade. Moreover, we aim to create a long-term personal relationship with our Patreon subscribers: every subscriber will receive a bimonthly newsletter with updates on the radio’s growth, how the budget is being spent, and – depending on the chosen plan – the possibility to have discounted entrance to RBL events both in Turin and Berlin and/or periodic merch rewards.
