Our friend and radio host Renato Striglia – known by many as René – has left us on Monday November 23rd. He was a protagonist of Turin’s music scene since the early 80s and a long-time radio host for the local Radio Flash and national Radio Rai. Since 2012 René was committed to Radio Banda Larga, contibuting to its birth and growth, We met him in a moment when he was looking for new experiences, after many years as tour manager for Italian folk-singer Vinicio Capossela. Together with us René re-discovered his passion for radio and passed it on to many others who discovered RBL. He was also committed to bringing the radio practise to marginalised communities with the RBL & The City workshops and to the youngsters with the project Fare La Radio. Fro 8 years his iconic voice has been the daily ensign of our radio, divided between Pixel, his own hour of music selection born from the ashes of Puzzle – his iconic radio show with Alberto Campo on Radio Flash – and Nei Meandri, the weekly juke-box radio format going on air from the Drop In, a damage control center of the Amedeo di Savoia Hospital in Torino.
We like to remember René for his sharp gaze, often frowning and a bit damned, his many tattoos that you wouldn’t expect on the arms of a 60 years old, for his white hair and his large rings, for his voice and his incredible stories of a Torino that many of us only ever heard of. We like to remember him for his stories of meeting legendary musicians, for the daring transfers with RBL, for the lunches together in Via Baltea and Imbarchino after a Pixel show, for all the laughs we had together on the latest joke.
While waiting for a moment to gather and celebrate René together, his voice will be with us for the next days with a selection of old Pixel episodes on tuesday, thursday, wednesday and saturday from 12.30 till 2PM.
Farewell René
