On December 17 RBL Torino will take to the streets together with a vast group of local collectives, organisations and clubs to demonstrate against the Decree-Law 633-bis. This bill, currently approved from one of the two Chambers of Italian Govenment, is formulated to punish with excessive sentences – from 3 to 6 years of prison – whoever organises and promotes an unauthorised occupation of private spaces or soil for musical performances and it also allows preventive detention and phone tapping for those suspected of such activities.
The first version of the bill was criticised by jurists, politicians and the civil society and this led to a modification of the law. The initial formulation of the bill was in fact so vague that would criminalise not only musical gatherings but all kinds of unauthorised protest, such as student occupations for example.
This Saturday we will take the streets of our city with joy and determination, we will dance and we will fight against this attempt of criminalising forms of dissent and smother our freedom of expression.
